As part of our commitment to sustainability and innovation, we, members of the SDGs committee were thrilled to host a Coffee Grounds Soap Making Workshop on 11th December 2025 at our office. The workshop united colleagues from different departments in a hands-on experience that sparked creativity, deepened our commitment to sustainability, and filled the room with joy.

Why Coffee Grounds?

Every day, millions of cups of coffee are brewed, leaving behind used coffee grounds that often end up in landfills. But they hold an incredible potential for reuse as they are rich in antioxidants with a natural exfoliating property which makes them an excellent ingredient for homemade soap.  By repurposing these grounds, we reduce waste and give them a second life.

This interactive session was part of our efforts to raise awareness about sustainable practices and aligns with the United Nations SDGs, particularly:

SDGs12: Responsible Consumption and Production – By reusing coffee grounds, we reduce landfill waste and promote circular practices

SDGs13: Climate Action – By reducing organic waste and avoiding chemical-based soaps, we lower greenhouse gas emissions and support climate-friendly habits.

The Workshop – Creativity at its peak

The staff from Eco Green Energy who were instructors for this activity were not just energetic but also informative about the process of soap making. The instructor started by describing the art of soap making and the chemistry involved in the process. Some of the participants even tried to remember their chemistry class which was fun.

The instructor provided us with a mixture of oils/fats, sodium hydroxide and water which was in a solid state. We started with first melting this to bring it to a liquid state.

Participants were guided on how different textures and color of the soap can be achieved using different techniques. Participants were provided with 4 molds of our choice and were allowed to bring in their own molds as well.

The atmosphere was buzzing with creativity as attendees crafted their own personalized soap bars to take home which could be used the very same day.

Key Takeaways

Coffee grounds are far more than a byproduct of your daily brew—they’re a versatile resource with endless possibilities. Beyond soap making, they can enrich gardens by adding nutrients to the soil, serve as natural exfoliants in self-care routines, and even help with household cleaning. The biggest takeaway from our workshop was that sustainability doesn’t require grand gestures; it begins with small, intentional steps. When creativity is paired with sustainability, everyday activities transform into fun, meaningful experiences that make a real difference.
