To dedicate and commit to our corporate social responsibility, Social Value Committee of Hong Kong Branch continued to make our donation to The Community Chest of Hong Kong in March 2022 through the coordination of The Hong Kong Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The Community Chest of Hong Kong is a corporation established under the Community Chest of Hong Kong Ordinance in 1968.It prides itself in raising funds in six major areas of services: children & youth, elderly, family & child welfare, medical & health, rehabilitation & aftercare, and community development, making every effort to contribute to a better Hong Kong.

Our donation amount has been largely increased compared with previous year, due to the saved amount of fund from the reduced usage of paper and toner at the Branch office.

In our daily life, paper is always heavily used to perform our everyday office works but may not be aware of the scale of the resources consumed in producing the paper they use. According to a survey conducted in 2021, over four billion trees are cut down every year to make paper.

To save trees and the earth, Social Value Committee of Hong Kong Branch has taken steps to encourage our branch staff to reduce the usage of papers and print less. It was a great example to achieve two ends with a single effort, i.e. the fund saving from green activities can be donated to charitable organization, and achieving SDGs #12 – Responsible Consumption and Production and #17 – Partnerships for the Goals

Besides, under the surge of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, we care about our branch staff. Social Value Committee has connected with Caritas Group in Hong Kong, to purchase blood oxygen meter and infrared thermometer for all our branch staff in order to let them monitor their health condition. All the funds for purchasing “COVID Kits” would be used by Caritas Group for charity purpose.

Caritas Group Hong Kong is a charitable organization founded in 1953. The primary purpose of its establishment was to offer relief and rehabilitation services to the poor and the distressed, with the aim of addressing some of the social hardships and inequalities in Hong Kong. Over sixty-nine years of development, the wide-ranging services provided by Caritas include social work services, education, medical care, community development and hospitality, etc. We believe that it would definitely help the people with needs, and we would say we are more blessed to give than to receive.

Lastly, starting from FY2022, our committee was renamed as “Social Value and Well-being Committee (SVWC)”. We enhanced our committee structure and activities with regards to Well-being, with the following three goals to enable our staff to feel and pursue happiness at work by taking advantage of their own values and strengths:

1. Maintaining good physical and mental health;
2. Sympathize with the company’s ‘Purpose’; and
3. Foster good personal relationships that recognize diversity.
