Hello! This is Fiona Leung from Hong Kong Branch, a new member of Social Value and Well-being Committee (SVWC) in FY2022.

In June 1969, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City staged an uprising to resist the police harassment and persecution to which LGBT Americans were commonly subjected. This uprising marks the beginning of a movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices against LGBT Americans.

Today, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Pride Month) is celebrated annually inJune to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots.

Celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and LGBT Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world.

Last year, Social Value Committee has organized a LGBT workshop in August 2021. A guest speaker called Wingbo Chan from “Rainbow of Hong Kong” was invited to hold a seminar to our Branch Member to learn about LGBT, including the common problems faced by LGBT and how to create a diverse and inclusive workplace.

It was a very impressive seminar that it raised our awareness on the LGBT discrimination around us in the society.

One of the best ways to continue supporting LGBT is to publicly celebrate the Pride Month.

According to increasing interest from our staff after LGBT workshop in 2021, SVWC Hong Kong Branch has applied a new screensaver with the rainbow flags background and the story behind of the LGBT Pride Month.

This sends a clear message that you see them, you support them, and you will not stand for LGBT discrimination. We hope that getting everyone involved can promote an inclusive environment that celebrates pride.
