Hello, this is Jessie Gu from Business Promotion Department 2 of Hong Kong Branch, a member of Social Value and Well-being Committee (SVWC) in FY2023.

In June, Social Value Team of Hong Kong Branch, together with SMTHK, have organized a donating activity of our IT equipment.

At Hong Kong Branch, we all use wireless keyboards to improve our working environment now. But there are still some old stocks of keyboards and mouses which are not in use this year. Besides, SMTHK has over 60 monitors which have been replaced. All of them are in good quality, we would like to give the keyboards a second life, so they can be used somewhere else as well as to decrease waste.

These IT equipment were donated to Environment Protection Department, one of the government departments which is responsible for environmental protection, providing collection, transfer, treatment and disposal facilities for various types of waste in Hong Kong. To enhance the public awareness in the recycling of computers and communication products, EPD has launched the voluntary Producer Responsibility Scheme in Hong Kong. They collect used computers and computer parts for refurbishment and recycling.

Through such donation, we can raise awareness of waste reduction. Recycle is not limited to waste paper, metals, plastics and glass, but also including electrical equipments and appliances. We are looking forward our continuous contribution to sustainable development though more SVWC activities.
