Hello everyone! This is Kitty Luk from Sumitomo Mitsui Trust (Hong Kong) Limited (SMTHK).

Reading is a good habit that one needs to develop in our life. Good books can inform, enlighten and lead us in the right direction. However, the main material for books is “Paper”. According to the survey conducted by “Read-cycling”, 100 books (320 pages per book) are equivalent to deforesting one tree.

Therefore, we would like to share the half-year Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) event – Book Drive Program 2023-2024 in SMTHK. The Program was arranged in three events between June 2023 to January 2024. This Program aims to promote a love of reading in a green and affordable way while contributing to a meaningful cause. It can spread the joy of reading and foster a “Green Reading” culture. Let the books be recycled, and continuously enrich and inspire knowledge and wisdom of SMTHK staff.

The first event is Sharing – Book Collection. We encourage our colleagues to donate their own books to share with other colleagues.

The second event is Reading – Reading Corner. We set up the Reading Corner at 20/F and 25/F, colleagues can read the books during office hours to relax and can pick books that they are interested in to share with family and friends.

The third event is Caring – Donate books to “Books for Love @ $10” event. We deliver all collected books to the event public collection point to support this event. The “Books for Love @$10” event is an annual fundraising event organized by Swire Properties in Hong Kong, its aims to pass on the joy for reading by collecting and selling secondhand books donated by the general public and it has been organized for 10 years. The event is taking place from 9th to 19th May 2024 in Taikoo Place, Quarry Bay. All collected books will be sold for HK$10 each and all proceeds from the book sale will go towards supporting the NGO in Hong Kong.
