Hello! I’m Jennifer from NY Branch.
On August 16, 2022, 35 NYB employees joined Mr. Yoshinori Iijima, Executive Vice President, to participate in an exciting team building trivia activity that helped them to earn points to pack a backpack for students. The Bank donated 50 backpacks filled with various school supplies for the Good+Foundation.
Dr. Laurel Parker West, Chief Programs & Operations Officer at Good+Foundation was onsite and provided our employees an insightful speech about how our donation affects the community and those that are fighting poverty. She explained that the backpacks are more than just backpacks…. In many cases impoverished parents have to decide between purchasing school supplies or purchasing food to feed their family. By providing our donation, we can provide these families with both mental and physical relief while they provide for their family.
Participating employees were divided into teams of 4-5 people and given a list of challenges each worth a certain number of points to complete within an hour. Some of the challenges were mathematic questions, riddles, geography, or physical activities, such as making a video of the team while competing in a dance-off. Based on the points earned from the challenges, the teams earned backpacks and supplies (books, games, markers, water bottles, keychains, pencil cases, etc.) then stuffed their backpack!
The winning team was provided with a medal from our event partner, Team Outback. We provided the activity in two sessions, in the AM and in the PM to adapt to work schedules.
Throughout the event, employees had to actively talk to each other, thereby developing a friendly relationship. They can use this event to springboard their continuing friendship.
