I would like to share our first outdoor Social Value and Well-being Committee activity of Hong Kong Branch in FY2022 – the Lunchbox Distribution.

This is an event that we collaborate with Gingko House, which is the first social enterprise in Hong Kong promoting employment of the elderlies. They provide employment opportunities for elderlies who have financial or emotional needs and help them to regain self-confidence and to affirm themselves.

Gingko House organizes “Love Lunch Box Campaign” to distribute free lunchboxes and necessity gift bags to those people in need. Through joining this campaign, we hope that everyone can eats healthily and upholds “Gingko House” principle of healthy eating. Besides, we can show our love & caring to the society.

We conducted two sessions with Gingko House for our Branch staff participation. The first session in August was in Yau Ma Tei (Kowloon) and the second in September was in Tai Koo (Hong Kong Island). It is our great honor to have the support from Branch senior management by their participation in-person.

Upon the arrival of the restaurant, all the participants listened to the instructions of the restaurant manager and helped the preparation of the lunchboxes and understood the operation before the distribution got started. It is not a simple task by just passing the boxes to the hands of the poor but need to cooperate with each other during the whole distribution process and effectively communicate with the receivers and for sure, with love and passion.

We helped filling up the lunchboxes in the kitchen, moving them to the distribution area, registering and verifying the people who line up, giving sanitization gel to each of them and maintaining a waiting queue in proper order. Everyone took up his/her own role and was occupied every minute from beginning until the end, with sweat, fun and laughter. All of us enjoyed a lot!

As being one of the wealthiest cities in the world, it is not easy to imagine that so many people are in need and are willing to line up regularly for the donation of a meal. The underprivileged group of people try very hard to live in such a competitive city with the very limited help from the government.

Charities and NGOs play an important role in supporting the poor. We are honored to participate in this activity and providing our helping hands to them. Offering lunchboxes do not only feed the hunger but also showing our love and caring to the disadvantaged people in the society.

With the overwhelming responses from our colleagues, an extra session will be arranged in October after two successful sessions in August and September which totaling the distribution of around 300 lunchboxes, with our physical efforts as well as financial support on those lunchboxes.

We will continuously spread the love of Hong Kong Branch to the society in every way!
