Hello! This is Danny Wong from Hong Kong Branch, a member of Social Value and Well-being Committee (SVWC) in FY2022.
To celebrate the Christmas and improve the bond & relationship between our colleagues, SVWC held two Christmas Parties in December – one was for all our branch staff and the other one was for staff with their kids. It was the first time to hold a Christmas Party for staff with their kids at Hong Kong Branch. On that day, twelve families of our staff joined the Christmas Party. Besides, there was an office tour for the kids to walk around the workplace of their parents.
In addition to having fun, SVWC aim to add value on our company’s social responsibility in events as well. Therefore, some gifts which were bought in TECM Mall, an online shopping platform for Social Enterprise in Hong Kong, were prepared to all of our staff & kids.
TECM is a One-stop shopping platform for Social Enterprise (SE) products hosted by Fullness Social Enterprises Society Limited. They connect social enterprises to provide hundreds of SE products and promote ethical consumption in Hong Kong. It includes more than 50 merchants, such as Caritas-Hong Kong, Fairtrade, Animal SE and Eco-Greenergy to provide diversified products and reach different kind of target customer.
In all those merchants on TECM, we chose to buy the gift at Caritas-Hong Kong, which was founded in July 1953 by the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong. The primary purpose of its establishment was to offer relief and rehabilitation services to the poor and the distressed people, with the aim of addressing some of the social hardships and inequalities in Hong Kong resulting from the Second World War and subsequent social and political changes at the time.
They believe that while fully affirming the continuing necessity and value of helping those in sudden need or in chronic destitution, the ultimate drive of Caritas is to enable people to develop themselves and to overcome the difficulties that life and circumstances have put in their way.
Apart from the gift we bought from Caritas-Hong Kong, SVWC also distributed a stainless-steel cutlery set (printed with our SVWC logos) to each branch staff. According to a survey conducted in Hong Kong, the plastic usage for dining has been significantly increased since the pandemic in 2020. The purpose of distributing a reusable cutlery set is to encourage our branch staff to reduce the plastic usage for their take-away lunch.
SVWC hopes to appeal the awareness of ethical consumption for everyone through this two Christmas party.
You can enjoy and celebrate Christmas without any overconsumption and try to form a habit of ethical consumption!
