Hello everyone! This is Soni Wong from Hong Kong branch. I would like to share my experience of the Social Value and Well-being Committee (“SVWC”) cross year event in Hong Kong Branch – Clothes Recycling Event.

This is the first time for SMTB, together with Sumitomo Mitsui Trust (Hong Kong) Limited (“SMTHK”) collaborating with The Salvation Army (“TSA”), to liaise this Recycling Clothes Event.

The event was held from 19 December 2022 to 6 January 2023. Besides helping the people in need, we can promote the sense of sustainability throughout the events. The clothes collected can facilitate reuse and recycling. Closed to year-end, many of us make use of this opportunity to spare the wardrobe and donate to the people. The donation includes various styles, including t-shirts, down jackets, sweater etc.

TSA is an international Christian church and charity working in 133 countries and areas; and has been serving Hong Kong for over 90 years since 1930. With the commitment of transforming lives, caring for people and making disciples, they are currently operating over 80 social services units, 36 schools and education center, 17 corps (churches) and 1 outpost, and 17 Family Stores in Hong Kong and Macau.

Along with economic growth, people easily get what they want, when they want it, there is also growing pressure to deal with the overabundance of unused items we own – and keep in storage. One of these is the old clothes hidden away in our wardrobes. TSA encourages the donations of clothes for use across its invaluable community programs. The donated goods will help those people in need, such as home alone elderly, street sleepers, ex-prisoners and recipients under charitable organizations.

With the support of our colleagues, the overwhelming responses are positive. Although the event has been successfully concluded, it will be considered to hold it again in the future. We will continuously spread the love to the society in different ways!
