Hi, this is Kiyomi. I am in charge of SDGs activities at Singapore branch.
Since 2023, SGP branch has been providing support to AWWA Home & DAC wheelchair users(mainly adults) with disabilities.
This year, AWWA Home & DAC sought corporate support for its first-ever dog therapy programme, “All Paws In.” “All Paws In” provides scientifically grounded programmes utilising dogs, delivered by “The Dogtors”, a nonprofit organisation supporting empowerment of individuals with disabilities and special needs. SGP branch sponsored this programme out of a desire to contribute to AWWA community.
This dog therapy is customised to meet the needs of AWWA clients. It is a unique initiative in which AWWA clients, dogs, and SMTB volunteer staff work together during each therapy session. Through therapy, AWWA clients experience improvements in physical and mental health, connection with others, sensory and emotional functioning, and motivation to participate in activities.
This programme also provides SMTB employees with an opportunity to cultivate compassion and kindness. A company’s CSR activities can strengthen the relationship between employees and the company, boost morale, and help employees feel more satisfied with their jobs.
Session 1
8 beneficiaries were selected for this programme. For some of them, it was their first time to touch a dog. They were a little scared, but they were able to touch the dogs with the staff.
Session 2
The rules were: no loud noises, gentle touch, and treats in the palm of your hand.
Give the dog some yoghurt with a spoon. They practiced walking the dog indoors.
Session 3
We worked together to make a windmill.
Session 4
On this day, we walked around the facility with the dogs.
At first, she was scared of the dogs, but now she couldn’t wait to touch them.
Session 5
On this day, we played obstacle course games with the dogs. She wrote “Happy” in her notebook.
She wrote “Happy” in her notebook.
Session 6
We played a number matching game with the dogs.
Joel is very attached to Alan.
Session 7
No one is afraid of dogs anymore.
We made some artwork.
Let them choose their favourite paint colour. Pour the paint onto a piece of cardboard and put it in a Ziplock bag. Spread peanut butter on the bag and let your dog lick it.
And then…this is the finished product!
Then they made doggie faces out of pom-poms.
Everyone did well The final session.
The AWWA members and our staff will create artwork together.
Can’t wait to see what kind of artwork they will create!
Everyone successfully completed all 8 sessions.
They gifted us this lovely framed piece of art as a token of their appreciation.
SGP branch will continue to support AWWA Home & DAC and carry out activities that bring joy to them.
