Hello, this is Jessie Gu from Business Promotion Department 2 of Hong Kong Branch, a member of Social Value and Well-being Committee (SVWC) in FY2023.

This time, partnership with World Wide Fund (WWF), SMTB Hong Kong Branch and SuMiTHK jointly organized a Nature Reserve Half-Day Tour – Walk for Nature – Exploring Mai Po Nature Reserve on 13 Jan 2024.

Mai Po Nature Reserve, located in the northwestern corner of Hong Kong, the Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay wetlands are recognized as a Wetland of International Importance under the prestigious Ramsar Convention.

For more than three decades, Mai Po Nature Reserve has been a paradise for birds and a beautiful, irreplaceable piece of China’s wetland kaleidoscope.

WWF’s guided eco-visits to Mai Po are the best and simplest way to experience the beauty of this truly unique and ecologically diverse wetland location. Our visit was an environmental education tour, guided by a nature interpreter, the activity followed a designated trail that explores the Gei Wai (which means traditional shrimp ponds), boardwalk and natural habitats of wildlife, as well as the birdwatching hides.

As a haven for tens of thousands of migratory water birds each year, Mai Po Nature Reserve and the surrounding Inner Deep Bay wetlands sets a prime example of conservation success for regional wetlands.

The visit is so meaningful, when we are surprised that there is still such a beautiful natural landscape in Hong Kong, the eco-system of plants-shrimps / fish-birds is so impressive to us that show us all things in nature thrive and complement each other.

We hope more people could realize the importance of sustainable development and could benefit from sustainability through SVWC activities.
